Green Ridge Gravelcoaster

The Green Ridge Gravelcoaster is a new self-supported bikepacking event that loops through the beautiful and rugged terrain of Green Ridge State Forest, Maryland's largest tract of public land, and adjacent forests and country roads.

Green Ridge State Forest borders the C&O Canal and Eastern Divide Trail but remains largely unexplored by bicyclists (in a week of scouting, I never saw another bicyclist). On these routes, you’ll enjoy endless miles of forest roads, visit numerous overlooks, grind up Maryland's biggest gravel climbs, and scream down the corresponding descents.

The Gravelcoaster and Ultracoaster routes include a wide mix of surfaces: smooth gravel, rough forest roads, doubletrack, low-traffic country roads, a little easy singletrack, and an unbridged river crossing. Each has free camping just past the halfway point. The Minicoaster is a more beginner-friendly day ride or easy overnighter that mixes rail trail, canal path, and less technical forest roads.
